BPD Encourages Holiday Safety for All Residents
The Batesville Police Department reminds residents to keep safety in mind during the holiday season. As families gather, roads become busier, and shopping areas fill with activity, officers urge everyone to make responsible choices to help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for all.
"Our officers will be out in full force throughout the holiday season to help protect our community," said Chief John Scarbrough. "We want everyone to celebrate responsibly, travel safely, and look out for one another."
BPD offers the following holiday safety reminders:
Travel & Driving Safety:
- Never drive impaired. Always designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service.
- Buckle up every trip, every time.
- Avoid distractions, including texting or using mobile devices while driving.
- Allow extra time for travel and stay alert for pedestrians and weather-related hazards.
Shopping & Personal Safety:
- Park in well-lit areas and be aware of your surroundings.
- Do not leave valuables or shopping bags visible in your vehicle.
- Keep purses, wallets, and phones secure and out of sight.
- When shopping online, use reputable websites and monitor your accounts for suspicious activity.
Home Safety:
- Lock all doors and windows when leaving home.
- If traveling, have a neighbor or friend keep watch over your property.
- Avoid overloading electrical outlets or leaving candles unattended.
- Report suspicious activity to the Batesville Police Department immediately.
Officers will conduct increased patrols during the holidays to focus on impaired driving, theft prevention, and public safety.
"The holidays should be a time of joy and togetherness," Chief Scarbrough added. "With a little extra care and awareness, we can all do our part to make sure everyone has a safe and happy holiday season."
